Yes!!! Finally a recipe for crunchy, crispy, and oh so delicious crispy oven baked fries. These french fries are my husbands FAVORITE french fries! They take about 45 minutes to an hour to make, but they are COMPLETELY worth the wait! I had been searching for a basic french fry recipe that I could make at home. I wanted a recipe that was quick and easy, but I realized I might not be able to find quick, quick. This recipe is shorter than the average crispy oven baked french fry recipe by about 15 minutes. They are also great for summer picnics outside with the family or holiday treats. You can pair your fries with anything you wish. You can see from the picture I paired mine with breaded oven chicken strips. The recipe makes about four servings, depending on how many you like to eat in one sitting. Which I can guarantee you it will be hard for you to stop yourself. I used 2 large white potatoes for just me and my husband. We did have extra, even after I had been snacking on them, while the chicken was baking. Once you have your potatoes, cut off the ends and use a vegetable peeler or knife to remove the skin. You will do this for all of the potatoes. Once you have your potatoes cut and peeled, you will start cutting the potatoes into slices. I cut mine into about 1/4 in thick, but if you like thicker fries then cut them thicker. Just note that they will take longer to cook in the oven. After your have your slices, you will cut the slices into thin strips. Again, if you like thick cut fries, cut them thicker, but they will take more time in the oven. Now, after cutting the potatoes into strips soak them in a bowl of cold water for 15 minutes. I know I know! Soaking them!! What? Really? Yes, you must. I, too, tried to avoid soaking the potatoes in water, but the fries never came out crispy enough. This is where the other recipes take longer. You only have to soak the fries for 15 minutes, instead of 30 minutes. The potatoes need to soak so the starch gets removed from them. Once they have soaked for 15 minutes. Take handfuls out of the bowl, rinse them with water, and pat dry with a paper towel. The potatoes need to be dry to hold the oil and salt. Here would be a good time to preheat your oven to 425 degrees and prepare your baking dishes. I used two cookie sheets lined with parchment paper. You do not need the parchment paper, but your fries may stick to the bottom, if you don't. If you do not use parchment paper, your fries will bake 15 min. each side. If you do use parchment paper, they may need an extra 5 minutes on the second side. Put the potatoes in a clean bowl. To save myself dishes, I rinse and dry the bowl I soaked the potatoes in, then put the potatoes back in the same bowl. Makes clean up a whole lot easier! In the bowl, pour 3 TBS of vegetable oil, or canola oil, or whichever oil you want to use, over the potatoes. Then, pour 1/2 TBS of salt over the potatoes. Using your hands (because it is way easier), mix the salt, oil, and potatoes. Once mixed, line your cookie sheets with potatoes! Fill in all the spaces you can! Place both cookie sheets in oven and bake for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, flip each fry over. The fries should be a golden brown. At the time of the flip, they may not look this golden brown, and that is okay. Remember, they still have another 15-20 minutes to bake. Bake the fries on the second side for 15-20 minutes. Fries will be ready when they are golden brown like in the picture above. Remove and pair with your favorite sauce and meal! Enjoy! Crispy Oven Fries
